The Link Between Smell Loss and Parkinson’s Disease

As you may know, the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) is a study sponsored by The Michael J. Fox Foundation to identify one or more biomarkers, or indicators, of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Understanding risk factors of PD, such as smell loss, could help to identify therapies that may prevent the onset of motor symptoms in future generations of PD patients.

In an interview with Philadelphia’s ABC6 Action News, PPMI investigator Matthew Stern, MD, discusses PPMI and the link between loss of smell and Parkinson’s disease. Watch the video.

PPMI seeks 10,000 people over the age of 60 who do not have Parkinson’s disease to take this brief online survey about your sense of smell.
