Seniors Count is a community initiative focused on educating people in St. Louis, St. Louis County and St. Charles County about gaps in coverage affecting older adults in our area and their ability to live independently as they age. One of their major focus areas right now is Proposition S, which will be on the ballot on November 8, 2016. Proposition S would enact a property tax of five cents per $100 assessed valuation, which would go into a Senior Services Fund. Non-profits and other community groups could then apply for grants from the Senior Services Fund in order to provide programs and services for people over 60, such as transportation, meals on wheels, home safety & maintenance, respite care and many other services. Each county (and the City of St. Louis) must approve of Proposition S independently, and operates its Senior Services Fund independently as well.
